Open Hearts, Open Minds, Open Doors

An Invitation

Dear Parent(s) Considering Pack 42:

In Scouting we tend to ask ourselves a number of questions about the quality of our lives; and, we ask new Parents and Scouts to join us in considering this important question.  Is your son getting the start in life you want him to have?  If he is 7 years old now, he will be on his own in another 12 years.  If he is already 9, he is about halfway to adulthood…  Will he have had the kind of character-building experiences he will need in the future?

As parents, we all hope that our children will be the kind of people we can be proud of, and that their lives will be happy and productive ones.  Scouting involves young people with the kind of friends and leaders you would like them to have; building moral fiber with their peers and working with adults of good character that will be positive role models to them.  For these and other reasons it is the largest youth-oriented movement in the United States; and for many, the benefits of Scouting last a lifetime.

Scouting, which started in 1910 here in the United States, teaches respect for other people, respect for oneself, and respect for God and country -  all values that are vital to our nation’s future.  The Cub Scout program is based on age-appropriate activities, and each level of Scouting is based on your son’s grade level in school.  Scouting is a family activity; and we actively encourage families to fully participate in Scouting programs with their son.

This is an invitation to accompany your son to one of our Pack Meetings at the Thornville United Methodist Church.  Take a look around at our developing web site in the meantime, and follow the Scouting Links to our local District web site, the Simon Kenton Council’s web site, or to the national web site of Boys Scouts of America.  Come to the meeting, watch your son, learn more about Scouting and then, decide if this is the right path for your son and your family.

It is my hope you will make the same decision that many of us have made, and enroll your son in America’s finest youth program.

Sincerely,

Cubmaster Pack 42
